Mobstep Gamification: A New Way to Engage and Reward Your Restaurant Customers

Why restaurants need gamification inside a mobile ordering solution

Mobstep’s new Gamification plugins (Spin the Wheel and Scratch the Card) are built directly into your mobile ordering solution, so you can turn every app visit into a measurable marketing moment: increase average order value, shorten time between orders, and capture first-party data for retargeting.

Mobile ordering is no longer “nice to have” — it’s the primary channel customers use to order food. But downloads alone don’t equal repeat revenue. Restaurants that convert app installs into repeat buyers use in-app marketing features — push, coupons, and interactive experiences — to keep customers ordering.

What you get: Spin the Wheel & Scratch the Card — integrated with vouchers

Both games are fully integrated with Mobstep’s existing vouchers and coupons system. That means every prize can be:

  • A coupon template (percentage, fixed, free item, free delivery)
  • Cashback or points added to a customer wallet
  • A raffle entry for bigger prizes
  • Or a “Try Again / Good Luck” outcome to manage fairness

Because the games use the same voucher templates and coupon rules you already run, setup and reporting stay simple and centralized.

Follow these quick steps in your Mobstep dashboard to launch:

  1. Go to /plugins → Choose a game: Spin the Wheel or Scratch the Card.
  2. Design the look & feel: colors, messages, CTA buttons, and branding to match your restaurant’s mobile ordering app.
  3. Create reward logic:
    • Reward types: Try Again, Good Luck, Coupon Template, Free Item, % Discount, Fixed Discount, Free Delivery, Points, Cashback, Cashback %, Raffle Chance.
    • Set Number of chances per user (1, 2, …) and Per period (daily, weekly, monthly, once).
    • Assign probability % for each slice — total must equal 100%.
    • For coupon prizes: go to Marketing → Coupons, create a Template coupon with expiration and conditions, then select that template in the game plugin.
  4. Promote the game: Marketing → Banners & Popups → create a banner/popup, set destination = Game, choose the game and schedule, then publish.

Example restaurant setup that converts (practical, revenue-first)

Target: increase AOV from ~400 EGP and drive a 7-day repeat.

Game: Spin the Wheel
Chances: 1 play per customer per day
Reward distribution (probabilities):

  • 15% — 10% off (min order 250 EGP)
  • 10% — Free side (fries / garlic bread) — voucher expires in 3 days
  • 8% — 20 EGP cashback (wallet)
  • 7% — Free delivery (one-time)
  • 5% — Raffle ticket for 500 EGP voucher (monthly draw)
  • 25% — Try Again (encourages re-play)
  • 30% — Good Luck (no reward — control to manage cost)

Why this works: Short voucher expiries (2–4 days) force quicker return orders. Free sides and free delivery reduce the friction to cross the AOV threshold. Cashback and wallet rewards build long-term retention.

Reward ideas & marketing hooks restaurants can use

  • “Play today — get dessert free on your next order”
  • “Spin to win: up to 20% off — today only”
  • “Scratch for a chance to win a monthly 500 EGP voucher”
  • “Orders above 400 EGP get double raffle entries”
  • “Weekend happy hour: extra chances on Saturdays”
  • Loyalty fusion: convert game wins into loyalty points to push higher lifetime value

Best practices to maximize ROI (for mobile ordering and in-app marketing)

  • Tie rewards to behavior: require a minimum order value for percentage discounts to lift AOV.
  • Create urgency: set short coupon expirations to convert plays into orders fast.
  • Measure & iterate: track redemption rate, uplift in AOV, and repeat rate for players vs non-players.
  • A/B test placements: try banners, popups, and checkout prompts — the placement with the highest conversion may vary by audience.
  • Use push & email retargeting: remind non-redeemers to use their prize before it expires.
  • Limit cost exposure: cap high-value rewards frequency and keep probability math conservative.
